By early November, a Bethel Park garage has usually collected a summer’s worth of leftovers: lawn chairs stacked against the wall, sports gear that never made it upstairs, paint cans from last year’s project and an old fridge that still hums in the corner. Before the snow blower and holiday bins need that floor space, a garage cleanout clears the clutter so winter storage actually fits.
Iron Bear & Co. is a family-owned, local junk removal company, established in 2015 (formerly Richie’s Hauling). We clear garages across Bethel Park, South Park, Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon and the South Hills with a white-glove approach: we do the lifting and loading, protect floors and doorways, and leave the space swept when we are done.
What usually piles up in a Bethel Park garage
A fall garage cleanout is rarely just one category of junk. The loads we see most often include:
- Broken or unused furniture, shelving and storage bins
- Old appliances, including spare refrigerators and freezers
- Exercise equipment, bikes and bulky sports gear
- Leftover building materials from a remodel or DIY project
- Electronics, TVs, computers and tangled cords
- Yard tools that no longer work and outdoor furniture past its season
Some of that can go to donation. Some belongs in recycling. Construction scraps, Freon appliances and e-waste usually cannot ride out with regular trash. Our garage cleanouts page covers how a full garage pickup works, and our guide to a Mt. Lebanon garage cleanout before winter walks through a similar South Hills timeline.
What Bethel Park trash pickup will and will not take
Bethel Park’s residential trash is collected weekly by Waste Management. Residents use approved carts, with trash bagged and fitting inside the cart. Carts go out after 6:00 p.m. the night before collection or by 6:00 a.m. on service day, with at least three feet of clearance from mailboxes, parked cars and trees.
Bulk collection is limited. According to the Municipality of Bethel Park, up to two bulk items can be collected once per month during the first full week of the month, placed at the curb on your regular trash day. A bulk item is an appliance, piece of furniture or other residential item too large for the cart. Construction debris, hazardous waste, extra boxes and extra trash bags are not permitted as bulk items. If you have more than two bulk items during that week, Waste Management asks residents to call 800-866-4460 to schedule and pay for the extras. WM also offers overflow bag pickup for a per-bag fee, again by calling that number.
That two-item monthly limit is why a full garage rarely fits the curbside schedule. One old fridge and one dresser use up the allowance. Everything else waits another month, or you schedule a haul. Confirm current rules on the Bethel Park trash and recycling page before you set anything out.
Items that need special handling
Appliances with refrigerant. Refrigerators and freezers need proper Freon recovery. They are not a casual curb drop. Our appliance removal service handles them as part of a garage pickup.
Electronics. Pennsylvania’s Covered Device Recycling Act keeps many electronics out of the household trash. Old TVs, computers, monitors and printers belong with an electronics recycler. See our e-waste removal page for what we take.
Paint, solvents and chemicals. Household hazardous waste is not a bulk item in Bethel Park. Keep those aside for a county or PRC collection event rather than mixing them into a general load when possible.
Construction leftovers. Scrap lumber, drywall, tile and broken fixtures from a remodel are generally excluded from bulk pickup. They fit better in a dedicated cleanout or debris haul. For remodel leftovers, see construction debris removal.
Furniture. Couches, mattresses and dressers that are still usable can often be donated. Pieces that are broken or stained go out with the rest of the load through furniture removal.
How a white-glove garage cleanout works
You point out what stays and what goes. Our crew carries items out, loads the truck and sorts as we go so usable goods can be donated, electronics can be recycled and only what has to be disposed of goes to disposal. You can read more about where your junk goes after pickup. Floors, door frames and vehicles in the driveway are protected while we work, and we sweep when the truck is loaded.
Same-day and next-day pickups are often available based on the schedule. You get a firm quote before any work starts. Our residential junk removal service covers the rest of the house when the garage cleanout is part of a bigger reset, and a spare room cleanout before the holidays pairs well if guests are coming.
Frequently asked questions
Will Bethel Park trash pickup clear my whole garage?
Usually not in one week. Bulk service is capped at two items during the first full week of each month. A crowded garage typically needs a dedicated haul.
Do you take the old fridge in the garage?
Yes. We remove refrigerators and freezers and handle them properly as part of the pickup.
Can you donate usable items from the garage?
When items are clean and complete, we sort for donation whenever possible and recycle electronics instead of sending them to disposal.
Do you serve Bethel Park?
Yes. We work throughout Bethel Park, South Park, Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon, Canonsburg and the surrounding South Hills communities.
