When a Mt. Lebanon refrigerator finally dies – or a remodel leaves you with a spare fridge, freezer or dehumidifier – curbside trash is not a simple answer. Appliances with refrigerant need special handling before they can leave the curb, and Mt. Lebanon’s bulk rules cap how much you can set out in a week. Iron Bear & Co. is a family-owned, local junk removal company, established in 2015 (formerly Richie’s Hauling). We remove refrigerators and other appliances across Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park and the South Hills with a white-glove approach: we do the lifting and loading, protect floors and doorways, and leave the space clear when we are done.

What Mt. Lebanon curbside will not take without Freon recovery

According to Mt. Lebanon’s Public Works garbage guidelines, furniture, appliances and household goods are accepted as bulk items – with an important limit on refrigerant appliances. The contractor will collect refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and water coolers only if the item has a sticker certifying that the refrigerant has been removed. Items without that sticker will not be picked up, because it is unlawful for the contractor to dispose of anything still containing refrigerant.

Mt. Lebanon also notes that having the company delivering a new appliance haul the old one can avoid a separate Freon recovery charge. When that option is not available – or when you are clearing a garage, basement or spare unit with no delivery scheduled – a dedicated pickup is usually the cleaner path. Confirm current rules on the Mt. Lebanon garbage page before you roll anything to the curb.

Bulk limits that stop a full appliance cleanout

Even when Freon has been recovered, volume still matters. Mt. Lebanon’s 2026 trash and recycling guide limits weekly trash to a maximum of 15 bags and one bulk item per house. Bags and cans cannot exceed 50 pounds. Trash goes out after 6 p.m. the evening before collection or by 6 a.m. on pickup day, within five feet of the curb. County Hauling (Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill) collects residential trash; residents can call (724) 929-7694 with collection questions.

One bulk item per week means a fridge and a dryer cannot both go out on the same pickup. Construction debris is excluded from regular garbage. When you have more than one appliance – or appliances plus furniture and remodeling leftovers – the curbside schedule alone rarely finishes the job. Our appliance removal service and residential junk removal page cover how a full pickup works when the curb limit is the bottleneck.

What else piles up with an old fridge

Refrigerator removal often arrives with related items that also need a plan.

– Freezers, window AC units and dehumidifiers that still hold refrigerant

– Ranges, dishwashers, washers and dryers that are not Freon appliances but are too heavy for one person

– Electronics near the kitchen – old TVs, microwaves and computers – that Pennsylvania’s Covered Device Recycling Act keeps out of household trash

– Remodel leftovers: cabinets, countertops, tile and packaging from a kitchen update

Electronics belong with an electronics recycler rather than the trash truck. See our e-waste removal page for what we take. Remodel scraps fit better with construction debris removal than with a single bulk day. If the fridge is sitting in a crowded garage you are trying to clear before winter, our guide to a Mt. Lebanon garage cleanout before winter walks through a similar South Hills timeline.

How white-glove appliance removal works

You point out what stays and what goes. Our crew disconnects what we can safely handle, carries appliances out, loads the truck and sorts as we go so metal and recyclable components can be handled properly and only what has to be disposed of goes to disposal. You can read more about where your junk goes after pickup. Floors, door frames and vehicles in the driveway are protected while we work, and we sweep when the truck is loaded.

Same-day and next-day pickups are often available based on the schedule. You get a firm quote before any work starts. We do not leave Freon appliances on the curb hoping the sticker appears – we remove them as part of the haul so you are not stuck with a tagged unit on Washington Road or Cedar Boulevard the next morning.

Frequently asked questions

Will Mt. Lebanon trash pickup take my refrigerator?

Only if refrigerant has been removed and the unit has the required certification sticker – and only if that fridge is your one bulk item for the week. Without the sticker, the contractor will not take it.

Do you remove refrigerators and freezers in Mt. Lebanon?

Yes. We remove refrigerators, freezers and other appliances and handle them properly as part of the pickup.

Can you take more than one appliance in a single visit?

Yes. A dedicated haul is not limited to one bulk item the way weekly curbside is, so multiple appliances and related junk can leave in one trip.

Do you serve Mt. Lebanon and the South Hills?

Yes. We work throughout Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park, Canonsburg, Peters Township and the surrounding South Hills communities.
